  • About us

    • The department was established in 1998 with the following Objectives
      • Research and Training Activities
      • To set up a state of art immunodiagnostic lab for sophisticated tests
      • To work on areas like Transplantation, hypersensitivity and rheumatological disorder, organ based diseases Non Infective diseases like Diabetes Mellitus
      • Various tests for infectious diseases detection
      • Research areas like immunotoxins, cancer immunotherapy
      • To organize training program /workshops for medical and paramedical staff.
    • Department has state of art equipments for sophisticated tests like serology and molecular methods of diagnosis, transplant immunology. Basic equipments for all the immunological parameters are available in the dept. Elisa technique is being routinely used for screening tests.

    Activities

    • Quantitative analysis of Hepatitis B Virus, Hepatitis C Virus and HIV are being done on government and private patients
    • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is being carried out for many communicable and non communicable diseases and methodologies have been standardised.
    • HLA tissue typing and cross matching are being carried out by serology and molecular methods This method can be used widely in organ transplant work.
    • Complete work up for Diabetics patients – estimation of autoantibodies, adipoenctin levels and HLA of the patients Immunoglobulin profile for the neonates and children
    • Training program is going to be conducted for lab personnel's in ELISA and PCR work. Training is given to students from various universities
    • Regular CMEs are being conducted in the department.
    • Short term projects are being carried out regularly by B Technology and M Tech students from various universities( Anna, SRM, Bharath, Bharathidasan Universities )
  • Regular classes are being taken Theory and practical for projects students are being taken . B.Tech and M. tech of Biotechnology, M.Sc. Microbiology.

    Organized

    • CME in HLA in Health and disease by Dr. Radha Madhavan at the Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University in 2004.
    • Recent advances in Innate Immunity by Dr Bathirunathan in 2005.
    • Dr Bapi Raju on Leptospirosis on 14th July 2008.
    • Accreditation of Microbiological Labs on 09.04.09 by Dr Revathi Director of King's Institute of Preventive medicine
    • Microarray Technique by Dr Vijayalakshmi from Cancer Institute WIA on 22nd December.
    • CME was conducted – ICMR funded on "Diabetes mellitus and HLA" on July 2014 and four eminent speakers has delivered lectures.
    • Participated in CME – Bio techcellence 2014 at Anna University
    • Speaker in the Indo German workshop Orcheopolous meet at Madras Medical Mission in August 2014
    • Underwent hands on training In cancer institute for Microarray and proteonomics
    • Letter to editor , Journal of Biomedical Sciences , 2011.
    • Paper has been published in international journal- ADA 2014.
    • Poster presentation was presented at AMEE 2013.
    • Poster presentation has been accepted in FOCIS 2014.
    • Presentation at IMMUNOCON 2014.

    • Detection of GAD and IA2 in Type I DM-LADA
    • Quantitation of HBV and HCV viral load by PCR
    • Other Seromarkers for HbsAg patients
    • Occurrence of MRSA in normal school children.
    • Adiponectin levels in pregnancy.
    • HLA in asymptomatic HbsAg patients.

    • GAD in diabetic in type diabetes children.
    • HLA and Apogene in DM both Type I and II
    • Occult hepatitis B occurrence.

    • HLA tray for the South Indian People.
    • Detailed study of HBV patients along with genotyping
    • Western Blot detection for ANA factor
    • Immunofluresence technique for Parietal cell antibodies and Islet antibodies
    • Detection of levels of Immunoglobulin in pre and post renal transplant patients
    • GAD in diabetic in type diabetes children.
    • HLA and Apogene in DM both Type I and II
    • Occult hepatitis B occurrence.

    Project Details

    • Every month the student pays an amount of Rs.2000/ month for a minimum period of three months for the overhead charges. They buy their own consumables necessary for the project the final report is submitted to the department. Topics are decided either by the students or they can join any project which is ongoing.

  • Tests

    • Regular Outpatient clinic are attended by the Department staff at Stanley Medical College and Hospital and Institute of Children Hospital for collection of samples.
    • Samples will be collected between Monday to Friday between 10.00 am to 2.00 pm –serum samples need to be sent and not the patients.
      • Serum needs to be separated without hemolysis and this sample has to be properly labelled.
      • Should be sent in leak proof containers (patients need not come).
      • Samples should be sent as early as possible ( within 6 hrs it can be in room temperature, if more than 6 hrs it has to be brought in cold thermo cool boxes only)
      • The samples will be accepted any time between 10.00am to 2.00 pm on any working days from Monday to Friday
      • Filled in Performa as enclosed should also be sent with the sample
      • A formal requisite with the details of the patients and the name of the doctor asking for the test needs to be attached
      • Payment needs to be done at the dept itself through a bank Chelan.
      • Results will be available in the following Thursday.
      • The tests will be done at a nominal charge .
